Hydraulic Breakers
Backhoe Loader Breaker
6 HKM breaker models for backhoe loaders from manufacturers such as JCB, Hidromek, CAT, Case, Komatsu and New Holland. Compare the models in the table and confirm the one for your machine with the carrier selector.
Which breaker suits a backhoe loader?
A backhoe loader is a wheeled machine with a loader bucket at the front and a digging arm at the rear. Manufacturers such as JCB, Hidromek, CAT, Case, Komatsu and New Holland all build them. The breaker is fitted to the rear digging arm.
When you choose the breaker, start from the load the digging arm can carry, not from the total weight of the machine. The digging arm of a backhoe loader carries less than the boom of an excavator of the same weight. That is why a backhoe loader takes a smaller breaker than an excavator of the same weight would. A breaker that is too heavy runs the arm, pins and bushings above their design load, and the machine can lose stability at full reach.
The 6 models on this page are the HKM breakers our carrier selector recommends for backhoe loaders: G15, G20, G30 and G30BL from the Grey Line and RS50 and RS50BL from the Red Line. The smallest Grey Line models, G10 and G12, are too small for a backhoe loader; they are built for mini excavators.

Values are HKM catalogue data. The carrier column is the carrier range the model is rated for on excavators; do not compare the weight of your backhoe loader with it directly. Instead, pick the make and model of your machine in the carrier selector instead. Flow and pressure are the operating range of the breaker; compare them with what your machine delivers to the breaker line.
Grey Line or Red Line?
The Grey Line runs on hydraulics plus nitrogen (hybrid): a low-pressure gas chamber adds power to the blow. On the backhoe loader list, G15, G20, G30 and G30BL belong to this line.
The Red Line is fully hydraulic: a high-pressure accumulator delivers steady, efficient impacts. On the backhoe loader list, RS50 and RS50BL belong to this line.
Models with the BL suffix (G30BL and RS50BL) have an open-frame design: the same carrier range as their closed-body counterparts, easier service access and a more economical option.
Three things to check
Digging arm capacity
The digging arm of a backhoe loader carries less than the boom of an excavator of the same weight. Choose the breaker by the capacity of the digging arm, not by the total weight of the machine; find that capacity in your machine manual or ask your authorised dealer. If you use a quick coupler, its weight also sits on the end of the arm.
Breaker line flow and pressure
The flow and pressure your backhoe loader delivers to the breaker line must fall inside the operating range of the breaker. Take these values from the manuals of your machine and of the breaker model; if you are unsure, have the line measured. If your machine has no breaker line, one has to be installed first.
Bracket and mounting
The breaker is fitted to the digging arm with a mounting bracket, and the bracket is made for the model of your machine; different models of the same make may need different brackets. When you ask for a quote, tell us the make and model of your machine and whether you use a quick coupler.

Frequently asked
Which breaker fits a JCB 3CX?
Our carrier selector recommends these HKM breakers for the JCB 3CX: G15, G20, G30, G30BL, RS50 and RS50BL. The flow and pressure of your machine's breaker line narrow the choice; take those values from your machine manual and compare them with the ranges in the table. The bracket is made for the model of your machine.
Does the list change for Hidromek, CAT, Case and other backhoe loaders?
No. Our carrier selector recommends the same models for the JCB 4CX, Hidromek HMK 102B Supra, CAT 432F, Case 580ST, Komatsu WB93R-5 and New Holland B110C: G15, G20, G30, G30BL, RS50 and RS50BL. If your machine is not listed, send us its make and model.
Why does a backhoe loader take a smaller breaker than an excavator?
The digging arm of a backhoe loader carries less than the boom of an excavator of the same weight. If the breaker is chosen by the total weight of the machine, the arm, pins and bushings work above their design load and the machine can lose stability at full reach. That is why the choice follows the capacity of the digging arm.
Can the G10 and G12 be fitted to a backhoe loader?
We do not recommend it. The G10 and G12 are too small for a backhoe loader; these models are built for mini excavators. For backhoe loaders, the list starts with the G15.
What if my backhoe loader has no breaker line?
The breaker runs on the breaker line of the machine. Many manufacturers offer this line as a factory option on backhoe loaders; if your machine does not have one, the valve and pipework should be installed the way the machine manufacturer recommends. Once the line is in, compare the flow and pressure it delivers with the operating range of the breaker.
